Austin is a native of Minnesota but has lived in Houston for ten years. He serves as the Chief of Staff of a local Houston-based non-profit that designs shelter solutions for refugees overseas displaced for decades in camp and settlement settings. For the last two years he has hosted and spearheaded the, "Dignify the Displaced" art auction--an annual fundraiser that takes place in June, highlighting the art of local Houston artists offering their work to benefit refugee families. In his prior role as founder of the Center for Faith, Work, and Innovation, Austin convened two conferences in partnership with the MFAH focused on the connection between art and faith and art and work.

While not an artist, Austin's interest in art comes from a deep conviction that to be fully human we must be engaged in the process of making. And art making and appreciating for Austin is both a source of healing and hope in his life.
